Identity

Middle School is a relatively new addition to the traditional structure of Cambridge College Lima and its purpose is to better articulate the difficult academic and individual transition that students experience when moving from Junior School to Senior School.

Middle School students are in the age range from 11 to 13 years old and are faced with a series of challenges typical of students of this age.

Students are introduced to Cycle testing from Phase 2 of Junior School but Middle School students have their first experience of external evaluation in their subjects taught through the medium of English in the form of the Checkpoint diagnostic evaluations administered by the University of Cambridge - Primary Checkpoint at 11 and Secondary Checkpoint at 13.

These evaluations, in English, Maths, Science and Global Perspectives serve as a guide for individual students and parents to gauge how learning has progressed during Junior School and Middle School and also for teachers to plan learning in the future. The School expects that all students obtain the DELF A2 certificate and that those with a special interest in the language can reach the DELF B1 or B2 advanced levels.

It is at the beginning of Middle School that students have the opportunity to begin the study of a third language – French. The school’s close association with the Alliance Française allows students to gain recognition of their abilities in the language through the “Diplome d’Etudes en Langue Française” (DELF) which is awarded by the Ministry of Education in France.
